The fate of circulating tumor cells. II. A mechanism of cortisone action in increasing metastases.

چکیده
mon cell emboli. Some blood-borne emboli can no circulate (4—7,9—li). Probably such emboli are not sources of metastases unless they are arrested ultimately in sites favorable for their development (3). This report concerns the effect of cortisone on arrest of tumor cell emboli. Past investigations have shown that cortisone increases metastases (1, 2). Cortisone may promote metastases by in creasing the incidence of arrest of circulating tumor cells. Experiments were developed to test this hypothesis. With microcinematographic tech flies it was possible to count the number of tumor cells passing through or arrested in a capillary bed.

متن کاملNovel Isatin-based activator of p53 transcriptional functions in tumor cells
Bioinorganic medicinal chemistry remains a hot field for research aimed at developing novel anti-cancer treatments. Discovery of metal complexes as potent antitumor chemotherapeutics such as cisplatin led to a significant shift of focus toward organometallic/ bioinorganic compounds containing transition metals and their chelates as novel scaffolds for drug discovery. In that way, transition met...
متن کاملZFX Overexpression in Breast Cancer Positively Correlates with Metastasis
Background: As the third most frequent cause of cancer death, breast cancer is a common disease worldwide. Most of the patients are being diagnosed in the stage that conventional treatments are not effective, and invasion and metastases lead to death. Therefore, identification of novel molecular markers to improve early diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the breast cancer is a necessity. Zin...
متن کاملAnti-tumor Activity and Cell Cycle Arrest of a New Diterpene Ester from Daphne mucronata Using K562 Cells
In our search for new anticancer medicinal plants, the antiproliferative activity of the methanol extract of Daphne mucronata (Thymelaeaceae) was evaluated using human myelogenous leukemia K562 cells. The cells responded to plant treatments in a dose dependent manner and the IC50 of the crude extract (equivalent to 1 g of plant leaves powder per ml) and the purified active component were found ...
متن کاملCabazitaxel antiproliferative mechanism of action in U87MG human glioblastoma cells: a promising cell-cycle phase-specific radiosensitizer
Introduction: One mechanism of cell cycle manipulation and mitotic catastrophe is arrest at G2/M phase of cell cycle. Cabazitaxel, a mitotic inhibitor agent, is a second-generation semisynthetic taxane. An expected anti-neoplastic effect of Cabazitaxel is cell cycle perturbation and alteration of microtubule dynamics. In contrast to other taxane compounds, Cabazitaxel is a poo...
